As the small party make their approach, Christine is feeling a little  
unsure now that they are actually here. Raindogs still issues its red  
neon invite, scrawled carelessly across the dark. But the shadows are  
thicker, giving the place a more secretive air, as though it has  
curled in on itself to brood. And then, there's the mountainous  
Malone, silent as granite and about as easy to blag. Oh well. Nothing  
ventured . . .

Christine girds herself, hitches up her smile and steps forward into  
the baleful neon glow that bathes Malone.

"Hey, still open? Can we come in?" She glances at her companions -  
diffident Aurora, looking like she stepped out of a 1920's photo;  
Jack cheerfully drunk as a skunk; John Black, wearing urbanity like a  
silk suit. "We're harmless," adds Christine. Well. It's probably  
true. Right?
