Christine blinks at the sudden fire and dangerous red gleam in Mara's  
brown eyes.


"So, I take it you didn't already know about Camille Carlton?" says  
Christine. "I mean, dead but still walking around?" She is aware of  
huge relief. She doesn't think she could have coped with the idea  
that Mara had known that Mrs Carlton had been  'embraced'  all along.  
"Well, that's a plus, I guess."

Christine wraps her arms around herself, shivering in the cold.

"I saw her in the ladies cloakroom. She recognised me and for a  
minute I really thought I was in trouble - we were alone. Sandra  
walked in and Camille backed off. I haven't seen her since then."

Christine stares at Mara, who now looks sleekly dangerous, her wild  
temper flaring hot.


"I don't understand, Mara. What does it mean? And what are you going  
to do?"
