Buford, Ashlar, Gaspare, St. Clair, Sugar Kane
  Four Vampires and a Singer
  Conservatory of the Sinclair Mansion
  1 – 3 AM
   
  Buford watched Ettiene St. Clair and his new muse walk past him to the terrace without a second glance at the black shadows that hid him from their view.  Ashlar and Alessandra Gaspare followed, Gaspare’s demure gait the complete opposite of Kane’s man-eating swagger.
   
  He waited until he heard their four voices in conversation before he moved from his hiding place between the twin windows.  He moved back to his original place when he first arrived.  It gave a good view of the room and terrace, but was hidden from the door by a small grove of jade palms.
   
  The moonlight upon the glass outside insured that anyone on the terrace outside would only see their own reflection, but Buford wasn’t fool enough to trust that the an errant cloud wouldn’t block the light and reveal him to anyone caring to look from the outside.  He mentally went back within himself once more, half-remembering the feeling of being crouched in some scrub brush while others hunted him a time long ago.
   
  He glanced right, seeing his reflection in the mirror.  For a split second he thought he saw the man he was back then, steel-gray eyes deep set beneath a beetling brow, his mouth almost hidden with a thick handlebar moustache, then it was gone.  Buford doubted it had been there in the first place; just a wool-gathering phantom dredged up from his days on the range.  He turned his attention back to the terrace, while the others waited for the gods to prod Sugar Kane into singing a tune.
