[Christine]
"So, why's she in Gotham, now? Here at this party, too  . . . I don't think she was expecting to see me."

[Mara]
"I don't know."  Mara's tone of voice is less brittle and tense as she starts to get a better handle on her emotions.  "I'm sure she's with someone.  She's not the sort that would attend a party alone." 


[Christine]
Christine ponders this. "Can't help with that. She just appeared out of nowhere. Haven't seen her since."

Christine droops against the balustrade, cold, tired and dispirited. 

"Is Camille dangerous? Likely to come after you or me?" She sighs and mutters, "Like I could do anything about it."
 
[Mara]
"She's as dangerous as I am."  Mara replies in her roundabout way of talking about vampires in mixed company.  "Would she come after us?  I doubt it.  The Prince of Seattle has no jurisdiction here."  
 
[Christine]
On that fatalistic note, it occurs to her that she may as well 'fess up to Mara about her little 'breaking and entering' escapade at Market Street. If Christine is going to be ripped limb from limb by a vengeful vampire, she'd just as soon it was Mara. 

"Hey, er, I paid a visit to the office the other day. With Aurora. Checking out our . . . your spook infestation. Aurora has a gift for that kinda stuff. There's definitely a ghost haunting the place. I think you probably got a body buried in the cellar. Some guy. Some long dead wiseguy." 

Christine grins placatingly at Mara. "Thought you should know..."

[Mara]
A dark look crosses Mara's face and Christine catches a flash of anger.  "Good thing I changed the upstairs locks."  Mara replies, not wanting to acknowledge mention of Aurora. "I know about the ghost.  I think we have an understanding right now.  It doesn't fuck with me, I don't call Father Bellamy."  
 
Mara smiles slightly at that notion.  "So what, are you saying that you plan to come back and pay the ghost another visit?  I suppose asking for an appointment's much more polite than breaking in."
