Mage, Old Lady

>> "Perfectly preserved?" she laughs softly. "It has fared much
>> better than I!
>> Might I enquire where you found such a gorgeous antique? I may be
>> tempted to
>> investigate an outlet that hides such treasures myself. For old
>> times sake?
>> It would be like meeting old friends, ones you were sure had
>> passed on. "

> She shyly smiles again, her eyes were grey, "I was helping her move
> some of her effects out of a small house and we found it in the
> basement."
[Eva]
The old lady smiles steadily. One gnarled hand steals up to rest over
her heart and Aurora notices that the lady's rings seem to sparkle
tremulously. "A forgotten trove," she murmurs. "Some long ago girl
must have shed a tear or two to find she had left such a lovely gown
behind . . . " The hooded aquamarine eyes shimmer and then the old
lady laughs, tinklingly. "Sentimentality!" she says with a charming,
self deprecating gesture. "The curse of old age! Quite probably the
Flapper in question grew tired of the dress and discarded it
cheerfully enough. Time passes, fashions change. One must move on,
you know. So easy to linger in the past but it's a song that always
ends in lament." The lady lifts one finger, smiling. "So, advice from
an old lady? Move with the times and avoid sentimentality, dear
child. That will keep you from getting old - up here!" She taps her
temple lightly.
Beside the old lady, the burly man in chauffeur's livery shifts his
weight, his expression slipping from impassive to resigned.
Glancing at him, his employer's smile curls mischievously.
"Poor Lloyd is bored," she comments, "naughty of me to keep him
waiting."
"Ready whenever you are Mrs. Harrington," says Lloyd, stoic behind
his moustache.
Mrs Harrington sighs. "While my mind stays young, my bones do not.
But it's so wonderful to see that lovely dress on such a lovely girl.
Hidden in a basement, finally coming out into the light once again. I
wonder what else might have lain there forgotten all these years."
Mrs Harrington's smile glimmers again. "But that is just idle
curiosity! Forgive me."
