[John]
John chuckled as the two women went off.  He glanced
at Jack for a moment.  "I need a drink.  Care to show
me where you got yours?"

[Jack]
“Sure...well, I got all of mine from the guys walking
around with the trays. They certainly don’t seem to
mind how many you take. But...” Jack looks at their
current proximity to the ladies’ loo and wrinkles up
his nose. “...somehow I don’t think they’ll be
wandering over here anytime soon.”

He stands up, with some difficulty, and tries to
regain his balance. “Okay. I think there are a
couple of bars in that direction.” Jack points to the
main ballroom, where most of the party-goers are still
gathered.

“Oh, I don’t know who you are. I’m Jack Emerson.
Pleased to meet you.” He thrusts out his hand.

[John]
John took Jack's hand.  His firm was firm and
confident.  "John Black,  Occult Antiquarian.  It's a
pleasure to meet you."

He fell in line with Jack as the two casually  moved
to join the party goers.  John moved as if he belonged
in this crowd, rather than a party crasher who'd snuck
in with a drunk friend.  "So tell me, what brings a
man to a fancy party such as this to get drunk?"

[Jack]
A broad, lop-sided grin comes over Jack’s face, almost
giddy at the thought of his newly-won freedom. “Let’s
just say that I find myself... unemployed... and I am
not at all unhappy about it. In fact, it’s reason for
celebration. So...my friend, Christine and I decided
to crash this little soiree and help ourselves to free
booze.”

His eyes go a bit wide.“Oh, please don’t rat us out. I
don’t want to get into trouble and... we’re going to
go on a pubcrawl in a few minutes anyway. This was
just the first stop on a night of festivities.”

Jack blearily eyes a tray of champagne-filled goblets
as a waiter hovers nearby. Though he’s very tempted to
continue taking advantage of the non-stop flow of
alcohol, it’s finally getting through to his impaired
brain that it may be wise to start pacing himself.

“Were you invited to this or are you crashing too?”
